History on the merger leading to Point of Light Lodge.

R.·. W.·. A. L. Eaton, a Past District Deputy, was raised in Western Light Lodge in 1950 and was Master when Western Light Lodge and Whitneys Point Lodge consolidated in 1967 becoming Point of Light Lodge No. 795.

A note of worthy interest, in 1925, Western Light Lodge No. 597, began the practice of presenting Bibles to each initiate. At that time the cost of a Holman Bible was       $3.25.

The discussion of building its own Temple was a frequent topic amongst the brethren of Whitneys Point Lodge. In 1963, the Lodge was offered the opportunity of parking cars on the Broome County Fairgrounds and earned a sum of $369.25 which was placed in a dedicated building fund.

W.·. James V. Patterson was elected Master of the Lodge on 1967, at the being the year discussions were being held with the Brethren of Western Light Lodge No. 597, on consolidation of the two Lodges. Agreement was reached and a decision to consolidate was made at the June7, 1967 meeting. W.·. Patterson then announced it would be the last meeting of Whitneys Point Lodge and that the next meeting, in September, would be Point of Light No. 795 F. & A. M.

W.·. Patterson donated a piece of land he owned on Route 26 to the Lodge. A Lodge building was constructed, largely under the direction of Brother Harold l. Abbott and with the assistance of many of the Lodge brethren. All work was done by Lodge members with the exception of the foundation and exterior bricking.

Dedication of the Temple was held in May of 1971, officiated by M.·. W.·. William R. Knapp and his Grand Lodge Officers. A very large crowd was on hand to witness this event as the weather was perfect for the occassion and a fine time was had by all present. Three years later the ? Cornerstone Ceremony was conducted by M.·. W.·. Lloyd Cochrane, Grand Master of Mason of the State of New York and his Grand Line of Officers, all whom depicted a beautiful ceremony. The cornerstone presentation was by Brother Arthur Arrow. Once again Providence smiled on the occasion allowing for perfect weather.

Members immediately started to work to pay off the $10,000 note, W.·. Patterson and his wife, had loaned for the building. The effort was highly successful and now the Temple is free and clear.
